November 4, 2019A team of thirty sappers from the Engineers Regiment Rural Development Unit (RDU) recently completed a new footbridge at Nawaikama village on Gau Island in Lomaiviti on Thursday 24 October, 2019. The construction of the new footbridge was made possible with funding from the Government of Japan through Commissioner Eastern’s Office at the cost of $170, 956. 21. The 150meters long and 1.2 meters wide bridge will provide better access for the villagers and visitors to the village.
According to the RFMF Engineers Team Leader for the project, Warrant Officers Class Two Simione Kanarogo, their work is now complete and he acknowledged his team members’ efforts in ensuring that the project was completed in time and to the required standards. He also added that the old footbridge which was used by Nawaikama villagers posed a risk to the lives of the villagers and the new one would certainly provide relief to the people.
