October 12, 2016The late Roko Tui Bau and Former Vice President of Fiji, Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi was laid to rest on Friday 7th October 2016 at the chiefly burial grounds or Sau Tabu on the island of Bau. He served as Vice President under the late Ratu Josefa Iloilovatu Uluivuda from January 2005 to December 2006.
The casket of the late Roko Tui Bau was carried by RFMF poll bearers followed by solemn procession of troops and band befitting a leader of such status to the Ratu Cakobau Memorial Church where the service was led by the Methodist Church General Secretary, Reverend Dr. Epineri Vakadewavosa.
The final journey of the casket was then to the chiefly Sau Tabu for burial led by funeral Marshall Major Viliame Draunibaka and members of the RFMF. The casket was handed over to the traditional handlers of the chiefly body, the Matakibau clan. A final three-volley salute from RFMF Guards and Last Post was held in his honour.
Present at the funeral was the President of Fiji, His Excellency Jioji Konrote, Prime Minister, Honourable Voreqe Bainimarama, members of Parliament, the Samoan Head of State, the President of Nauru, members of the Diplomatic Corp, Commander RFMF and Senior Officers of the military.
