His Excellency the President of Fiji welcomed families of those who died during TC Winston and asserted that as one people, the nation will embrace and comfort them.
His Excellency the President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konousi Konrote who was the chief guest for the event conveyed the nation’s condolences for the tragic loss of their loved ones. “To the Families of those who died, a simple message of sympathy and love. As one we embrace you, as one we extend to you our hand of comfort as well as our deepest condolence,” His Excellency stated.
The National commemoration service was held at the Albert Park on 20th February 2017 to mark the Anniversary of the disastrous wrath of Tropical Cyclone Winston. A Special state prayer was performed prayers by our religious leaders followed by students’ part in the roll call of names of all victims who died during one of the worst tropical cyclone that affected the Fiji group.
