April 2, 2022The New Zealand Minister of Defence, the Honourable Peeni Henare on Monday 21st March 2022 began a 3-day bilateral visit to Fiji at the recently commissioned Blackrock Peacekeeping and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Camp in Nadi.
The Honourable Minister was received by the Deputy Commander Commodore Humphery Tawake and was accorded a quarter guard, a traditional welcoming ceremony before a short brief was given by the Officer Commanding Blackrock Camp, Major Pranaeel Singh.
Honourable Minister Henare also met with counterparts in Fiji reaffirming commitment to regional security cooperation and ways of strengthening it.
“New Zealand’s defence relationship with Fiji is strong, and characterised by enduring person-to-person relationships built up over many years,” Hon Henare said.
He also attended a remembrance ceremony at the National War Memorial after the tour of Blackrock and Fiji’s Maritime Surveillance Rescue Coordination Centre.
