July 14, 2019The Fiji Navy at the Naval Base in Walu held their monthly church service on Sunday, 07th July, 2019.
The Honourable the Prime Minister, Ret’ Rear Admiral Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama, and the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto were the invited guest to the church service. Commander Navy, Captain Humphery Tawake, Officers, men, families and friends gathered at the navy gymnasium to give thanks to our almighty father for the work they have accomplished since last month.
Also invited is the Australian Navy ship the HMAS Sirius Captain, Commander Melanie Verho and a few of her officers whom their ship berthed at Suva wharf on Saturday 06th July, 2019.
Sub-Lieutenant Jovilisi Katonibau on behalf of Commander Navy delivered the welcoming speech to the congregation and expressed the appreciation for the turnout. He also conveyed his sincere thanks to the crew of the Australian HMAS Sirius for their presence to share a light moment before they continue on their journey to Australia after their visit.
The Officer assured the Commander of the HMAS Sirius and crew that their presence at the church service was encouraging their visit was not only for routine patrol but also to strengthen the relationship between the two forces.
The Sub-Lieutenant also conveyed his sincere appreciation to all mothers and wives of the Fiji Navy for their generous support in assisting their husbands and their sons and daughters to perform their duties diligently. He also expressed the Commander Navy’s appreciation for the effort of all Naval personnel for their tireless efforts throughout the past month.
The Prime Minister in his address stated that it was important for them to be alert at all times when undertaking their responsibilities especially when receiving distress calls. “That is why the daily manning of the operation room is very important and it should be maintained at all times because some people out there needs your help immediately especially at sea”, he said.
The guests and family members of Fiji Navy personnel were treated to a morning tea after the church service.
