June 13, 2019Fiji has been invited to select two best Navy and Army candidates to undergo military leadership training at the Military Academy in West Point, Unites States.
This is the first time for a candidate from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces to attend training at the military academy. The selection process was conducted in January this year to identify the best candidates for the military academy.
The United States Military Academy which was established in 1802, is a distinguished military institution intended to develop future military leaders by educating, training and inspiring the Corps of Cadets to graduate as a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of Duty, Honor, Country and prepared for a career of professional excellence and service to the Nation as an officer in the United States Army.
The selection process for the Fiji Navy candidates was conducted at the Naval Base and the selection process for the Fiji Army candidates was conducted at the Officers Training School in Vatuwaqa. Interested candidates were interviewed followed by IQ Test to measure their intellectual capability to identify suitable candidates for the US Military Academy. Four candidates were selected to go through the Fiji Navy officerโs selection and five candidates were selected to go through the Fiji Army selection phases.
All candidates have also completed the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) which was conducted at the US Embassy to Fiji and are awaiting their results. Presently the candidates are undertaking the Basic Recruit Course currently conducted at the Fiji Naval base in Togalevu, outside Suva. The candidates are required to complete the basic recruit course and the SAT test results will enable the US Embassy to determine the two successful candidates to undertake military officers training at the West Point Military Academy.
