December 6, 2024The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), Major General Jone Kalouniwai, attended the Strategic International Indo-Pacific (SIIP) Conference 2024 in Paris, where defense leaders and policymakers convened to discuss the theme, โThe Indo-Pacific and France: Responding Together to Current and Future Challenges.โ The event brought together representatives from Indo-Pacific nations and key international stakeholders to address pressing security concerns and collaborative opportunities in the region.
During the conference, Major General Kalouniwai participated in high-level discussions centered on strengthening partnerships to address geopolitical tensions, maritime security, climate-induced challenges, and humanitarian assistance in the Indo-Pacific. Fiji’s role as a committed advocate for regional stability and a key contributor to peacekeeping missions was highlighted as a model for fostering security cooperation in the Pacific.
The Commander emphasized the importance of inclusive collaboration and capacity building, stating, โFiji stands ready to work alongside France and other regional partners in responding to the complexities of todayโs security landscape.
