𝗗𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗧𝗢 𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗚𝗢 ‘𝗗𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗠𝗜𝗧 𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘’

The Deputy Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Commodore Humphrey Tawake and the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Land Transport Authority (LTA), Mr Irimaia Rokosawa today (Wednesday 8th December) launched the mandatory ‘RFMF Driver Permit Initiative’ at the HQRFMF.

The joint initiative by the two organizations would permit only these holders are to be authorized to drive RFMF fleets locally and abroad. The training not only imparts the necessary skills and knowledge but ensures that drivers take ownership of their actions and the vehicles entrusted under their care.

Mr Rokosawa applauded the program saying that Driver Permit Initiative signifies the RFMF’s commitment towards safety which the Authority places as paramount. Addressing the launch, the Acting CEO told would-be participants to value the trust bestowed upon them by the RFMF and LTA as holders of a Driver Permit.

“Be more aware of your obligations as the Driver Permit you will receive comes with responsibilities and high expectations. Take ownership of every decision and action you make by prioritizing safety for all Fijian Road Users at all times”.

The Deputy Commander said that the course would be made mandatory for all drivers within the RFMF.

Apart from the LTA Defensive Driving Course (DDC), the course will also cover the understanding of Master Lease Agreement (MLA), RFMF Incident Management procedures, and RFMF vehicle documentation on policies and procedures.

For four weeks, participants will undergo a level 3 assessment of theoretical and practical training before obtaining the RFMF Driver Permit. The training will be conducted by the RFMF Logistic Support Unit Transport Section with other stakeholders from the LTA, Fiji Police Force, Accident Compensation Commission Fiji, St John Fiji and the Ministry of Economy.

Pioneering this course were sailors from the Republic of Fiji Navy.
