January 27, 2020The Three days Inter Unit Shooting Competition organized by the Land Force Command Unit on behalf of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander ended with a successful presentation of awards at the drill square in Queen Elizabeth Barracks on Friday, 24 January 2020.
The official closing event of the competition was officiated by the Commanding Officer (CO) of the Force Training Group (FTG), Lieutenant Colonel (Lt-Col) V. Draunibaka.
Lt-Col Draunibaka highlighted the purpose of conducting the shoot and added that the competition was perfectly in line with the Commander’s intent. He also congratulated the winning units for their success during the three days competition and reminded those that had been selected to represent RFMF to the AASAM in Australia, to lift their standard and to aim for Gold in this year’s competition.
The sport began that morning with the first match on rifle shoot in Bayonet Fight in Close Quarter Battles and the engagement of targets. It ended with the last match on the shooting category in Rifle and the Light Support Weapon (LSW) Falling Plates. The falling plate is when teams shoot 10 steel discs that are placed at the butt of the range from the 200m mount at the fastest time.
The results of the competition are as follows:
Pistol:
3FIR – First Place;
ENGRS – Second Place; and
LFC – Third Place.
Rifle:
3FIR – First Place;
FTG – Second Place; and
ENGRS – Third Place.
As for the falling plates for both the rifle and the LSW, ENGRS REGT won both the category dropping all the discs within the fastest time.
LCPL Tikoisuva of 3FIR won the Best Individual in Pistol competition with a total score of 582 counted shots while PTE Ravuwai also of 3FIR scooping the Best Individual in the Rifle Shoot with a total of 363 counted shots.
