The Mission Commander Rear-Admiral (RADM) Yu Wenbing of the Chinese Naval training Vessel “Qi Jiguang” paid a courtesy call to Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Force (CRFMF) Rear-Admiral Viliame Naupoto at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Strategic Headquarters earlier this week.
During the engagement, the CRFMF RADM Naupoto expressed his appreciation for the positive bilateral defense relationship built between the RFMF and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and discussed various ways to strengthen ties. The Mission Commander RADM Yu Wenbing in return hoped that there would be more collaboration and training between the two defence forces in the future.
In addition to this, RADM Yu Wenbing was accorded a “Quarter Guard” which was conducted by the Third Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment (3FIR) guards and was presented with a gift from the CRFMF.
The team of sailors from the Qi Jiguang will be conducting various activities within the Suva area which will include mangrove planting at Laucala Bay, a visit to the National museum and a friendly game of soccer and basketball with the RFMF.
The Qi Jiguang will depart our shores on the 8th of November 2019.
