August 16, 2019The sound of the bugle and the beating of the drums echoed in the air as the officers from the Defence Strategic Studies Course (DSSC) saluted in tribute to the Fijian soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the name of peace. This was after the Commandant of the Australian War College laid a wreath on behalf of the DSSC visiting class.
After the sounding of the reveille, the class were then briefed on the significance of the locations of the National War Memorial. The class also learnt about the ultimate sacrifice that was done by Fiji’s only Victoria Cross recipient, Corporal Sefanaia SUKANAIVALU. The history of Fiji participation in peacekeeping were also narrated to them in addition to the various campaigns that the Fijians were part of.
The class later visited the Ministry of Defence & National Security.
