June 21, 2019His Excellency the President of Fiji, Major General (Retired) Jioji Konousi Konrote advised the successful candidates for West Point Military Academy to love challenges and exemplify Fijian capability.
The two successful candidates for the West Point Military Academy in the United States, Officer Cadet (OCDT) Max T. Delai and Officer Cadet (Female) Sera Wase Lewaravu were summoned to Government House for an audience with HE the President of Fiji on Thursday 20th June 2019.
OCDT Delai who hails from Vione Village in the Gau Island stated that HE the President, Major General Konrote had advised them during their discussion to love challenges and exemplify Fijian capability at West Point. “Love challenges and show the world what Fijians are capable of,” he said. The former student of Queen Victoria School expressed his gratitude that his childhood dream had materialized. “As a child I’ve always been keen of being a pilot in the military, this was after my aunt had a vision of me driving an air force aircraft. And the initiative of joining the military expanded after undergoing cadet training back in QVS. So yes it was always a dream, and I’m grateful for this opportunity,” he said. He added that his greatest inspiration was the advice of a class three school dropout who taught him everything he should know in life. “My grandfather would remind me everytime ‘tawana vakalevu a qanibulu’ (Always have a lot of guts when facing challenges).
He concluded by thanking the Lord Almighty for the opportunity and was looking forward to the challenges and traditional rivalry at West Point. “I thank God for this opportunity and I’m looking forward to the experience and ready to Represent My Country , My People and My Family…Oh yeah, one more thing Go Army, Beat Navy,” he concluded.
