The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) today celebrated the successful completion of its 1/25 Basic Recruit Course (BRC) with a pass-out parade held at the Force Training Group in Nasinu.
The 13-week program, which began with 151 participants, concluded with 141 recruitsโ114 men and 27 womenโmeeting all course requirements. The training covered essential military skills and included the Lead Self-Course program, designed to build personal discipline and leadership qualities from within.
The Chief Guest for the pass-out parade was the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Major General (Maj-Gen) Jone Kalouniwai.
In his address, the Maj-Gen Kalouniwai reminded the graduates that their transition from civilian life to professional soldiers carried with it significant responsibilities. He urged them to uphold the RFMFโs values and stressed the importance of serving all Fijians regardless of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.
โThe oath you will take from this day forth signifies an unshakable commitment to defend Fiji and its people against all threats, both foreign and domestic, but it also underscores a deeper moral obligation to act with integrity, empathy, and unwavering ethical conviction in every decision you make,โ Maj-Gen Kalouniwai said.
“Your role will challenge you far beyond military actions; it will entrust you with the sacred responsibility of preserving the very structure of our society and upholding the principles of fairness, equality, and the rule of law.”
Maj-Gen Kalouniwai emphasised the need for political neutrality, professionalism, and strict adherence to both domestic law and international humanitarian standards, noting that every action taken by a soldier impact lives and the RFMFโs reputation.
The Commander RFMF concluded by quoting Nelson Mandela: โHonor belongs to those who never forsake the truth even when things seem dark and grim, who try over and over again, and who are never discouraged by insults, humiliation, and defeat.โ
The parade was attended by senior RFMF officers, representatives from the Fiji Police Force and Fiji Corrections Service, defence partners, and proud families of the graduates.
