February 22, 2022The Republic of Fiji Military Force personnel deployed to the Solomon Islands has settled in well as they join forces with their Pacific Counterparts under ‘Operation Halo Olketaβ. On Friday 3rd December, Contingent Commander Lieutenant Colonel Asaeli Toanikeve received his Operation Direction from the Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the Solomon International Assisting Force (SIAF) Commissioner Mostyn Mangau. The operation direction determines the parameters of the Contingentβs Area of Operations and operational taskings in support of both the RSIPF and SIAF that will enhance opportunities for the betterment of security, safety, and stability in the capital city of Honiara.
The Fijian Contingent has been given the responsibility to secure the perimeter and infrastructure of the Honiara International Airport and also support other security operations as directed by HQ SIAF. The troops have now deployed from the forward operating base, taking over full responsibility in liaison with key relevant stakeholders.
Furthermore, Lt.Col Toanikeve and his leadership team have consistently briefed the troops on key important issues about the developing security situation and the need to maintain discipline and strengthen teamwork as they work with our Pacific partners from the Australian Defence Force, New Zealand Defence Force, and the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary.
The RFMF Contingent is also thankful to the Australian Defence Force and its Contingent Commander Lieutenant Colonel Steve Frankel for the provision of logistical support and assistance to the team.
