The Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG) to Iraq, Ms Jeanine Hennis Plasschaert visited the Fijian troops at their camp in Tamimi Compound yesterday, Tue, 02 May 23.
She was accorded a Quarter Guard and a traditional welcome upon her arrival. This was followed by a Location Brief presented by the Officer Commanding Alpha Company, Major Emori Ratokalau.
Upon the completion of the Brief, she was taken on a facility tour of the Tamimi Camp before being hosted to an afternoon reception function. At the function, Ms Jeanine was hosted to a LOVO Buffet lunch with live entertainment from the personnel and the FGU Dance Band.
Ms Jeanine Hennis Plasschaert has held the position of SRSG since 2018 and is the first woman to hold this top position in Iraq since the inception of the mission in 2003.
The Contingent Commander, LtCol Waqanisau also presented a gift to Ms Hennis Plasschaert after members of the Unit had sung her the Fijian Version of the birthday song, as it had been her birthday a few days earlier.
To cap off events, our troops sang โIsa Isa Vulagi Lasa dinaโ to bid her farewell as she departed Tamimi, โour shores away from homeโ, for another meeting.โ
โThe RFMF has been contributing to UNAMI through the FGU or UN Guard Unit since the arrival of our first troops in December 2004.
The 2IC of the current Contigent, Maj Parauni Soko, was part of that initial deployment as well.โ
