January 23, 2025The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Engineers Regiment received two vehicles and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) equipment at the Engineers Camp in Nabuni today, 23 January, 2025. Commander Land Forces Brigadier General (Brig-Gen) Onisivoro Covunisaqa accepted the donation on behalf of the Commander RFMF. The vehicles and equipment were donated by the US Department of State, Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement (PM/WRA), and Golden West Humanitarian Foundation (GWHF) to be used by the RFMF Engineers Regiments.
While delivering his remarks, Brig-Gen Covunisaqa expressed his gratitude towards the US Department of State for these generous donations, which will be a great help to the RFMF Engineers.
โToday marks a significant milestone in our ongoing collaboration to enhance the capabilities of our armed forces, particularly in critical areas of EOD,โ Brig-Gen Covunisaqa stated.
Brig-Gen Covunisaqa also mentioned that the donation of these two vehicles and EOD equipment is a gesture of goodwill and a testament to the strong partnership between the US and Fiji.
“The training we have received from Golden West has been invaluable, equipping our personnel with the skills and knowledge necessary to handle potentially dangerous situations with utmost professionalism and safety,โ Brig-Gen Covunisaqa said.
Lastly, Brig-Gen Covunisaqa expressed his gratitude to the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation (GWHF) for implementing the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) training program Level One and Two for EOD personnel.
