A delegation from the Japan Ministry of Defence, led by the Director General for International Affairs, Ms. Hayashi Mitsuko, visited the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, George Mate Medical Center at Queen Elizabeth Barracks on Friday 28th November, 2025.

The team was accompanied by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) LCDR Ilaitia Tuisese, Principal Medical Officer (PMO) Major Aporosa Robaigau, and Senior Medical Officer Captain Merelesia Ranatawake, who guided the delegation through a detailed walk-through brief of the facility.

During the visit, the delegation received a comprehensive overview of the hospital’s medical services, capabilities, and ongoing development initiatives. They also toured key departments within the center, observing areas critical to operational readiness and troop welfare.

The engagement created an important platform for professional dialogue, allowing both parties to exchange insights on medical capacity building, disaster response support, and potential future cooperation between the RFMF and Japan’s Ministry of Defence.
