February 23, 2022Commander RFMF Major General Jone Kalouniwai while officially opening the 1/22 Junior Staff Officers Course at the Officers Training Center in Vatuwaqa reminded participants that the course will define who they are as a leader.
“In the next five years we will be expecting a lot of changes within the RFMF, and a lot of emphases will be placed on you young officers in terms of how you develop and how you see yourselves contributing towards your responsibilities within the RFMF.”
Major General Kalouniwai said the introduction of advanced technology nowadays has caused many to lose focus on the importance of normal staff work.
“I firmly believe that this particular level of leadership the most junior level of Officer Corp it is very important that you understand the responsibilities that you hold. A lot of emphases will come to the staff officer appointment in the way you communicate and the way you build your rapport within your respective headquarters.”
Commander RFMF told participants that the course will also teach them a lot of values and skills that will benefit both their career today and the career path that they intend to follow.
“It will present to you the many challenges that will test your determination and ability to become a good staff officer.”
A staff each from the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs are part of the Twenty-three participants attending the course including two from both the Fiji Police Force and Fiji Corrections Service.
Course Manager Lieutenant Nacanieli Seru said the purpose of the course is to train junior officers with the skills, knowledge, attributes and behaviours required to effectively perform the duties of a Junior Staff Officer within the RFMF. It also allows trainees from government ministries to enhance their knowledge and capacity.
