Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Commander Joint Task Force (CJTF) Brigadier-General (Brig-Gen) Manoa Gadai visited the 1st Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment (1 FIR), Fiji Guard Unit (FGU) UNAMI Battalion 24 at Baghdad, IRAQ from the 6th to the 8th of March, 2023. This trip is the first of his middle-east visitation to our Fijian troops deployed in peacekeeping missions overseas.
During his visit to Iraq, Brig-Gen Gadai was accorded a traditional Fijian welcoming ceremony and was present with location brief by Major Emori Rotokalau followed by section briefs from other officers led by the Commanding-Officer Lieutenant-Colonel (Lt-Col) Waqanisau.
Brigadier General Gadai opened a talanoa session, after isevusevu, to thank the FGU personnel for their tremendous work done in the past 6 months. He also emphasized on the importance of taking care of stores that we have in the mission and the need to take immense care of the little we have been given by the UN and also of our own contingent equipment.
In addition to this, Brig-Gen Gadai also paid a courtesy call to the Special Representative of the Secretary General to Iraq (UNAMI), Ms Jeanine Hennis- Plaschaert. This was later followed by a courtesy call to the Chief of Mission Support, Mr Harish Joshi.
Brig Gen Manoa Gadai concluded the 2-day visit by visiting the FGU UNAMI Emergency Response Team that is based at the United Nations Integrated Compound in Baghdad (UNICB).
