Fiji has reinforced its leadership in international peacekeeping through high-level discussions at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Led by Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), Major General Jone Kalouniwai, the delegation included Military/Police Advisor Colonel Silipa Vananalagi, Military Assistant Lieutenant Colonel Eroni Duaibe, and Force Sergeant Major Warrant Officer Class One Joeli Rabuli. As part of the visit, the delegation also paid a courtesy call to Fijiโs Permanent Representative to the United Nations (PRUN), His Excellency Filipo Tarakinikini, where they discussed Fijiโs long-standing contributions to UN peacekeeping and its strategic vision for advancing global security.
The discussions at UN Headquarters focused on Fijiโs peacekeeping efforts in volatile regions like the Golan Heights and Iraq. Central themes included troop safety, advanced pre-deployment training, and leveraging Fijiโs Blackrock Training Facility as a regional hub for capacity building. The delegation emphasised the importance of co-deployment models, integrating smaller Pacific nations such as Tonga, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands into global missions. These initiatives aim to enhance collective regional capacity while ensuring broader Pacific representation in peacekeeping efforts.
Fijiโs leadership in fostering regional partnerships was further emphasized through discussions on leveraging the Blackrock Training Facility to support joint training and preparation with Pacific neighbors. Increasing female representation in peacekeeping missions was also highlighted as a strategic goal to enhance operational effectiveness and improve engagement with local communities in conflict zones. Fijiโs initiatives align with international best practices and strengthen its role as a collaborative and inclusive peacekeeping partner.
These engagements reaffirm Fijiโs dedication to global peace and security while positioning it as a leader in regional collaboration. By prioritizing safety, inclusivity, and innovation, Fiji continues to advance its peacekeeping contributions on the international stage. Its proactive approach to addressing challenges and fostering partnerships ensures that Fiji remains a cornerstone of stability and progress in the Pacific and beyond.
