The Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Task Force Papiloni, joined ANZAC Day commemorations in Baghdad on 25 April, hosted by the Australian Embassy, and was attended by representatives from 14 embassies.
The Fiji Guard Unit provided the catafalque party for the ceremony, featuring an all-female team led by Sergeant (Sgt) Litia Matanisigadrau, under the guidance of Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) Warrant Officer Class One Wara.
Deputy Special Representative for Political Affairs and Electoral Assistance, Mr. Claudio Cordone, commended the all-female catafalque party for their professionalism and contribution to the solemn occasion.
The service was led by First Secretary Ms. Madeline Summers, with Australian Ambassador to Iraq His Excellency Glenn Miles delivering the keynote address, paying tribute to the sacrifices made by those who have gone before us.
The Commanding Officer, Task Force Papiloni, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Naivalu, emphasised the importance of the unitโs participation, noting that engagements like ANZAC Day strengthen Fijiโs ties with defense partners and reaffirm its commitment to peacekeeping efforts.
