Late last week, a dedicated team from the Joint Taskforce Command (JTFC) and Land Forces Command (LFC) was deployed alongside the Divisional Commissioner Eastern and key government departments to conduct Detailed Damage Assessments (DDA) and distribute food rations to communities affected by Tropical Cyclone Rae in the Lau Group.
To support this critical mission, the Commissioner Eastern Office and the National Disaster Risk Management Office secured three vessels from the Government Shipping Services. The response teams have been divided into three clusters, covering the following islands:
Yasayasa Moala, Vanuavatu, Cicia, Vanua Balavu, Tuvuca, Nayau, Lakeba, Oneata, Moce, Komo, Namuka, Kabara, Fulaga, Ogea, and Vatoa.
This operation aligns with JTFCโs role to plan and execute Humanitarian Aid & Disaster Relief (HADR) operations locally and regionally.
The JTFC remains committed to its vision of being a well-structured, highly responsive and effective unit, always ready to answer the call of duty in times of crisis.
